John Kavanagh talks Conor McGregor vs Jake Paul

Eddie Hearn wants to see Jake Paul vs Conor McGregor take place next year, including it on his wishlist of fights for 2022.

The Matchroom Boxing promoter likely won’t get his dream, particularly after Dana White shot down Paul’s efforts to fight his much less valued fighters Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.

Paul has consistently called out McGregor for a massive money showdown over the last year, but has been essentially met with radio silence from the Irishman.

The former two-weight world champion was focused on his two fights with Dustin Poirier at the start of the year, and now is recovering from a broken leg, with an eye to another UFC lightweight title run.

But Hearn wants to see him step back in the boxing ring for the first time in what would be half a decade since his bout with Floyd Mayweather.

“For Jake Paul personally, the fight to make is Conor McGregor,” Hearn said during an episode of the DAZN Boxing Show.

“This is a mega-fight and a really good fight as well, got to get the catchweight right in the middle, although Conor McGregor looks huge at the moment.

“Conor McGregor; legend, Jake Paul; content legend – but a lot of fun putting the work in.

“I want to see Jake Paul against Conor McGregor, let’s get it made – I can’t say it’s the top of my list of Christmas cheer here on DAZN, but a little bit of fun for the festive season.”

The list also included Teofimo vs Montana Love, an undisputed lightweight title fight between George Kambosos Jr and Devin Haney in Australia, a big fight for Demetrius Andrade and Deontay Wilder to return against Derek Chisora.

Hearn is also angling for a bout between Conor Benn and Adrian Broner, Ryan Garcia vs Isaac Cruz and a unified welterweight title fight between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence.

He also specified that he would like to see Canelo Alvarez unify the light heavyweight division, after he did it at super middleweight this year.

Hearn and Paul are set to join up once again, this time as co-promoters, for next year’s massive fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in New York.

The YouTube star, who fought in four pay-per-view fights in the last 13 months, will take a lengthy break from the ring to focus on helping Hearn to make the fight as big as possible.

It will be a timely reunion for the American and the Brit, after Hearn handed him his professional debut in January of last year against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in Miami.

He also gave the social media star’s older brother Logan his start in the professional ranks against KSI in Los Angeles the previous November.

“I know there’s a lot hate,” Hearn said of Paul during the segment. “I know there are a lot of people whose feathers are ruffled.

“Come on, respect the guy, he’s in the gym and he’s knocking people out!

“He’s yet to fight a true boxer but he’s improving, putting the graft in and raising the profile of the sport.

“And soon to be my co-promoter in the biggest female fight of all time; Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, fingers crossed for that one.

“It’s down to myself and Jake Paul to deliver you the Christmas cheer of that tremendous fight.”
