Police say the argument erupted between Richard Randell, 77, and his pal on the green at De La Vista Golf Course in The Villages in Sumter County, Fla.
Randell has entered a not-guilty plea to the charge of battery in the loopy links brouhaha.
Cops say the incident between the golf buddies occurred April 29. Officers spoke to a man who was part of a foursome with the two friends.
The witness said that on the fourth hole, the pair began arguing, which was something they reportedly did often. On the green, the unnamed 84-year-old told Randell — standing over the hole — to move. Randell replied he knew golf etiquette.
The argument continued and escalated and the older man flipped off Randell.
Incensed, Randell reportedly replied: “Do that again, and I will hit you.”
The older man did it again.
That’s when Randell punched him in the face, sending his buddy to the ground. The older man was taken to a local hospital with visible bruising.
Randell was arrested on a charge of battery on a person 65 years or older.
