A statement read: “Post Office Ltd provides a limited range of DVLA services and an extension to the current contract has been agreed until March 31, 2024.
“We want our customers to be able to access our services as quickly and as easily as possible and the role of front office counter services will form part of the considerations of future service offerings, utilising government agreements if necessary.”
The BVRLA stated that the DVLA would provide a dedicated team to work on its services for bulk customers.
It also reassured the BVRLA that it plans to engage with the association and members over the coming months about the services which will be covered.
The BVRLA, which represents over 1,000 companies in the motoring industry, said it would continue to update its members on any changes.
If negotiations had failed, it could have resulted in over-the-counter help to tax vehicles could have been removed.
Many BVRLA members are reliant on the Post Office to tax vehicles in bulk numbers, especially when taxing company cars and fleet vehicles.
A number of drivers also choose to renew their driving licences around the UK in Post Office branches, which has become a lifeline for elderly drivers.
Older people are required to renew their licences every three years once they reach 70 years of age, with some choosing to use a Post Office rather than online services.
The Post Office website states that drivers can renew their driving licence in one of 11,500 post offices, although not all will have services to help with certain services.
