Elemental is the 27th film by Pixar that will guarantee a big reaction from audiences when it hits cinemas. Period.
After last year’s Lightyear and Turning Red, the hugely popular animation studio is back with an exhilarating new adventure by director Peter Sohn, who has previously voiced characters such as Emile, the rat in Ratatouille and Sox, the cat in Lightyear. Good to know he wasn’t out of his element while helming this movie!
One of the best things about Elemental is that while other movies have relied on big-time names such as Tom Hanks and Chris Evans to bring in audiences, this movie features a combination of big-time stars alongside rising actors.

In particular, we have our Schitt’s Creek goddess, Catherine O’Hara, voicing a major character. Meanwhile, Leah Lewis (from the 2020 Netflix film The Half of It) plays the main female lead, Ember Lumen, who tries to find her place in a society divided by the four traditional elements, fire, water, land, and air.

What is the plot of Elemental?
The official synopsis for the movie reads: “In a city where fire, water, land, and air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.”
The movie follows fiery, no-nonsense go-getter Ember, who is literally made out of flames and lives in Firetown with her whole life mapped out for her. This includes inheriting her father’s business and marrying a fellow fireperson.
However, her whole life changes when she meets laid-back Wade, made out of water. Despite their differences, the pair connect deeply as they explore Element City, where fire, h20, Earth and air people live side by side. It is then Ember realises she wants more from her life…
Pixar is known for eliciting emotion in their viewers, whether that be laughter, sadness, or feelings of cosiness and warmth, and we’re sure they will deliver that with Elemental.
Who stars in Elemental?
Leah Lewis will play the lead Ember Lumen, while Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion) will voice Wade Ripple.
