In a new Instagram selfie, Elliot Page has reflected on his gender dysphoria, and fans are applauding his journey and honesty.
Captioning the smiley topless photo: “Dysphoria used to be especially rife in the summer. No layers, just a T-shirt – or layers and oh so sweaty – constantly looking down, readjusting my oversized T.” He added that “It feels so f’ing good soaking in the sun now, I never thought I could experience this, the joy I feel in my body.”
The 36-year-old Oscar nominated actor of Umbrella Academy and Juno fame publicly disclosed that he is a transgender man in late 2020, and since then has said transitioning has “improved my life drastically,”
In the new post, Elliot Page finished the caption by telling his followers “I am so grateful for what gender affirming care has allowed me and I look forward to sharing more of my journey soon. #transjoy”

Gender-affirming care is defined by the World Health Organisation, as “encompasses a range of social, psychological, behavioural, and medical interventions” which are “designed to support and affirm an individual’s gender identity when it conflicts with the gender they were assigned at birth.” Said care helps transgender people to align various aspects of their lives — emotional, interpersonal, and biological — with their gender identity.
The NHS notes on its website that “Treatment for gender dysphoria aims to help people live the way they want to, in their preferred gender identity or as non-binary. What this means will vary from person to person, and is different for children, young people and adults. Waiting times for referral and treatment are currently long.”
Comments on Elliot’s post are full of trans joy, with @tinygentlethem saying “This is hyping me up! I have top surgery in FIFTY days! ❤️ Thank you for this reminder!” @iamandrewseiler commented that “This is my first summer post top surgery. Wearing tank tops is my new favorite thing. So freeing! Thank you for being an inspiration to so many!”
