Elsa Bloodstone and Jack Russell reunite in WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #1

Elsa Bloodstone, Marvel’s premiere monster hunter, and Jack Russell, Marvel’s OG Werewolf by Night, last allied the Marvel Studios Special Presentation: Werewolf by Night, directed by Michael Giacchino (Star Trek: Short Treks) and written by Heather Quinn (Hawkeye) and Peter Cameron (WandaVision) for Disney+. A year later, the unholy duo will reunite once again in a Marvel Comics one-shot, Werewolf by Night #1, by writer Derek Landy (The Black Order: The Warmasters of Thanos) and artist Fran Galán (Black Panther Legends), with cover art by Corin Howell (Queen of Swords). No additional members of the creative team were mentioned in the press release.

“He bit me. He freaking bit me.” Quote from Marvel’s Voices: Werewolf by Night Infinity Comic #19 by Owl Goingback and Alison Sampson.

Debuting in Bloodstone #1 by writers Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning, penciler Michael Lopez, and inker Scott Hanna, with colors by Color Dojo and letters by Jon Babcock, Elsa is the daughter of famed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone. Shaped by her abusive father into a monster-killing machine, she received the Bloodstone choker and followed in her father’s footsteps after his death.

Although Elsa is a monster hunter by birth, she has a complicated history with those she’s born to hunt, having joined Morbius’s Legion of Monsters in the past. In fact, during Dennis Hopeless and Juan Doe‘s Legion of Monsters comic book run, Marvel Comics even teased a romantic relationship between Elsa and Jack Russell. Could there be more romantic overtones in this pair’s future?

Here’s how Marvel describes the forthcoming one-shot:

Jack Russell, the original Werewolf by Night, is back with another howling adventure! The tormented Marvel hero gripped fans’ imaginations in last year’s acclaimed Marvel Studios’ Werewolf By Night on Disney+, and now the moon rises on his next comic saga just in time for the Halloween season! Written by Derek Landy and drawn by Fran Galán, WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #1 will be an oversized one-shot that reunites the character with Elsa Bloodstone. Certain sections of this stylish supernatural epic will be presented in black and white, reflecting the pair’s conflicting moods and unique hunting techniques.

In the shadows of black-and-white night, Jack Russell races to halt the sacrifice of a young girl at the hands of monsters. Elsa Bloodstone, in all her colorful monster-hunting glory, isn’t far behind. But can they put their differences aside long enough to save the day? And what would such a partnership even look like?

Werewolf by Night #1 will arrive at your local comic shop and digitally on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
