Em Rata’s Birkin bangs in that Carrie Bradshaw-esque dress just got us summer ready

“Birkin Bangs are typically choppier and more bluntly cut than traditional fringe hairstyles,” hair stylist Syd Hayes, explains. “They are full of volume and piecier around the front, rather than being chunky or blocky.”

Not content with a traditional Birkin Bang, Em Rata made the French Girl look her own with some longer, cheekbone-grazing pieces slicing down the sides.

How to style a Birkin Bang? Syd recommends adding some grit and volume with a lightweight mousse (try the Hair by Sam McKnight Cool Girl Volume Blow Dry Foam), rough drying the hair and then using  a hot brush such as the BaByliss Hydro Fusion Air Styler to give it shape. “To make the hair look thicker you want roll the front sections of hair that frame the face away from your eyes – in other words, in the opposite direction to the way you want your fringe to sit,” he says. “Then when you brush it back the other way, you’re left with more lift and height.”

Better still, this effortless style can be worn with curly or straight hair. “Personally,  I like it with a loose, luxe texture but Birkin Bangs will look cool no matter what kind of hair day you’re having.”
