Embracer Reportedly In Talks With Marvel For New Game Deal

0

According to a credible industry insider, following Embracer Group’s recent acquisitions, the company is now in talks with Marvel to strike up a new game deal.

Marvel’s Avengers was an IP that was always accompanied by a cloud of uncertainty, for both players and the publisher. The game has already caused Square Enix, the original IP holder, over $200 million in losses along with Guardians of The Galaxy.

But, according to Miller, Marvel properties are something Embracer still continues to hold interest in, and the live service game won’t be affected by the acquisition, meaning players can expect more story content and characters down the road. Embracer is also looking to make a deal with Marvel that extends beyond this game, which means that multiple other Marvel games could be in the works, or collaboration content with some other IPs the company is holding.

Miller clarifies in concrete terms that Marven’s Avengers will live on, and that support for the title is still ongoing. It’s unknown whether there are other plans to end the life of the game at this moment, but if there are any then he would have surely heard of them. To clarify more on what issues could have caused selling the IP along with a lot of other studios, it certainly wasn’t the failure of the IP, according to Eidos Montreal founder Stephane D’Astous, but Square Enix’s management and expectations of the IPs in question.

Square Enix letting go of western-developed IPs is something that’s not unusual if one looks at their history, and that’s why Marvel’s Avengers might have a better chance with a publisher who knows how to sell and market these games for the right group of people. This isn’t the only game Marvel is working on at the moment, as it was reported before by Miller that an open-world single-player Black Panther game is in development, and let’s not forget Marvel & Skydance Media‘s narrative project that will be helmed by award-winning writer Amy Hennig (Uncharted).

Of course, we recommend you take Miller’s information with a pinch of salt, as nothing has been confirmed by Embracer at the time of writing. Miller himself also notes that “things can change”.
