Emerson Royal’s agent brings Tottenham to humiliating new low

The agent of Tottenham flop Emerson Royal claims that he ‘wants’ his client to join a club that fights for titles this summer. Spurs fell 22 points behind Premier League leaders and bitter rivals Arsenal on Sunday after a humbling defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

Emerson has massively disappointed in north London since completing a deadline day £26million transfer from Barcelona in 2021. The Brazilian failed to inspire confidence in former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who demanded that the club venture out into the market and sign Pedro Porro in January.

The Spaniard’s arrival has sent Emerson tumbling down the pecking order, even with Conte sacked and Cristian Stellini in temporary charge. The full-back’s agent and father, Emerson Zulu, recently pulled no punches when discussing his future.

“There is a great possibility that Emerson Royal will leave Tottenham,” he told the Charla Podcast. “We want this because we believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and go to a team that fights for titles.”

Naturally, given that Emerson has failed to convince at Spurs, supporters have not taken kindly to the comments on Twitter, where @Itz_Twiisted wrote: “Who does he think he is?” Meanwhile, @sox_rob added: “Another player we have who thinks he’s better than he is.”

The agent’s comments have emerged at the worst possible time for Tottenham supporters, who are already reeling from the heavy defeat their side suffered at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

“There are no words to explain a performance like this,” the Italian told reporters after the final whistle. “The first 25 minutes were maybe the worst I have ever seen. The system we changed [to a back-four] was the wrong decision. 

“It was my responsibility to decide the system for the game and we decided to defend differently because we had many injuries. We had Ben Davies [injured] and [Clement] Lenglet who could maybe play 15 minutes.”
