Emily Ratajkowski Gave Herself a Haircut and Filmed the Whole Thing

Some people get an adrenaline rush from jumping out of an airplane. Others, from taking scissors to their hair to hear that satisfying snip. Emily Ratajkowski is apparently in the latter camp. The supermodel posted a video of herself trimming some face-framing layers on TikTok on Sunday, August 21. “We’re going to the beach, and I want to give myself an extra layer in my hair,” she said, which explains the red string bikini she was wearing. 

Strands and scissors in hand, she wonders aloud, as the best of us do, “Is this insane, am I being crazy?” The answer: “Definitely.”

The video also features an adorable cameo from her 1-year-old son, Sylvester, whom she shares with ex Sebastian Bear-McClard. Despite her son’s best attempts to thwart the video, the cut continues. The reveal is a bit anti-climactic — in the end, it looks as though she cuts about a half-inch, creating chin-length layers.

“I’ve cut hair before, and this is not my best work, but, you know, it’s a start,” Ratajkowski says. “It’s a moment.” 

Earlier this month, the best-selling author debuted waist-length hair extensions. The new look came days after the announcement that she was splitting with Bear-McClard, whom she wed in 2018. Though she hasn’t spoken publicly about the details of the breakup, she did post a cheeky video about “the only man I want in my bed” — her 90-pound pup, Bobo. 

Now that’s a relationship I can get behind.
