Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray suffered their earliest Wimbledon exits as they both crashed out on a night to forget for the British duo.

Raducanu, who won the 2021 US Open went down to 6-3 6-3 loss to France’s Caroline Garcia, while Murray lost in four sets to American John Isner.

For Raducanu, it’s a worse performance than last year when she entered the tournament as a wildcard, having been ranked as world No.338, but reached the fourth round.

Her participation at the Grand Slam had been in doubt, with her suffering numerous injuries and being a no-show for a scheduled Wimbledon practice.

Garcia, a former top ten player, dominated the match with her aggressiveness, which unsettled the 19-year-old.

The world No.55, will now face Shuai Zhang in the next round.

Murray’s display was a hugely spirited one and it looked like a heroic comeback could be on the cards when he breathed new life into the contest to win the third set.

But a break for the big-serving Isner early in the fourth confirmed a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 triumph on Centre Court.

Fellow Brit Harriet Dart did win her first-round tie on Wednesday, however, when she beat Rebeka Masarova 6-1 6-4.

Cameron Norrie booked his place in the third round with a spectacular five-set win, beating Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-0 6-2.

Ryan Peniston’s journey was brought to an end as American Steve Johnson, who faces Norrie in the third round, won 6-3 6-2 6-4.

Meanwhile, Heather Watson’s campaign could be about to continue with the Guernsey-born star 7-5 5-4 up against China’s Wang Qiang before bad light suspended the match.
