Lydia (played by Karen Blick) has been at the centre of a lot of mystery over the past couple of years on Emmerdale, with the villager having faked her real identity for years after burying the body of her baby in the woods when she was a youngster. Viewers of the ITV soap have also been introduced to her mother, Agatha Finn (Judith Barker), and her sister, Beth Finn (Jeanette Percival), as part of the storyline but in recent months, the villager has been taking a backseat from the drama. However, it could be writers are preparing to bring in another sister as it seems Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) nurse Gail (Elizabeth Boag) looks a bit like Lydia.
The two characters have not crossed paths in recent weeks, as Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), and a handful of other characters are the only people who have seen Marlon in hospital.
They have had interactions with Gail, who has been helping the chef with his recovery from a stroke, encouraging him to become more independent.
When he was discharged from the hospital in recent scenes, Gail wished him well and said in the nicest possible way she didn’t want to see him again.
For now, it seems she won’t be back on-screen but she could turn up in the village in a few months’ time on an important mission.
It could be she recently found out she has a twin sister who she was separated from at birth who happens to live in the same village as Marlon.

Having made the discovery following the death of her adoptive mother, she could begin searching for a woman called Jenny Finn.
As Lydia gets word of this, she could be bemused as to why someone from her past has come looking for her as they could threaten to ruin her happiness.
But as she comes face to face with Gail, she could have no idea who the woman is until the nurse reveals the truth about her identity.
The newcomer could sit down and explain the sisters are actually twins and neither of them was ever told about what Agatha went through when she gave birth.
It could be, at the time, Agatha thought she couldn’t care for two little babies and decided she would give Gail up for adoption.
Sophie posted on Twitter: “I bet this Gail ends up working in the surgery. I can’t wait for her to have a good b***h in the woolie #Emmerdale.”
“Petition for Gail to become the new regular nurse. I actually love her #emmerdale,” Emmerdale News shared so could this desire to have her in the village mean she will expose her link to Lydia?
The actress who recently played Gail, Elizabeth, took to social media to address her character’s exit from the programme.
Elizabeth wrote: “Bye Gail! Thank you @markcharnock, @ZoeHenry03, all the cast, crew and casting team @emmerdale. Loved every minute!”
The actor who plays Marlon, Mark, replied: “You were wonderful in the part, Liz! Just superb.”
Speaking earlier this year, executive producer Jane Hudson, spoke with Express.co.uk and other press, teasing there would be some big storylines for the Dingles.
The soap boss said: “There is lots going on for the Dingles as we head into 2022.
“Two of our most loved Dingles are going to be facing huge life-changing situations that are going to have repercussions for the whole village.
“The effects of this are going to be long-lasting over the course of 2022 and into 2023. In the next few months, we’ll see drama, joy, fun, laughter, agony, pain, grief and despair hit this family.
“They will pulled into a lot of directions and be at the heart of our very biggest stories this year,” the executive producer continued.
One of these Dingle family members could be Lydia as her life would be changed forever by the arrival of Gail in the village.
This storyline twist could also see the nurse’s family arrive in the village as Lydia meets her nieces and nephews over the coming months.
Having felt on her own for so long, this could all be overwhelming for her but Sam Dingle (James Hooton) would encourage his wife to embrace her long-lost family.
Will it be a reminder of what she lost all those years ago?
