NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday imposed a 50 percent fine on both Australia and England for slow over rates during the gripping Ashes opener at Edgbaston. Additionally, both teams had two World Test Championship points deducted for their slow play.
According to the ICC, captains Pat Cumminsand Ben Stokes admitted their guilt and accepted the proposed sanctions, eliminating the need for formal hearings.The statement from the ICC confirmed this information.
The first Ashes Test between England and Australia delivered a thrilling spectacle, culminating in England’s dramatic two-wicket defeat. It marked an exhilarating start to the latest chapter of cricket’s greatest rivalry.

During the final day of the match, an unbroken partnership of 55 runs between Australia’s captain Pat Cummins and spinner Nathan Lyon proved to be the deciding factor as they successfully chased down a target of 281.

England’s loss in this Ashes Test was only their third defeat in 14 matches since the partnership of captain Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum was established last year.
