Jonny Bairstow – 6. Scored vital runs after the contentious Carey run out controversy caused an international incident but fumbles behind the stumps proved costly.
Moeen Ali – 6. Selfless turn at No 3 on his return helped England out of a hole and finally came good with the ball on the last day of the series.
Chris Woakes – 9. More than justified his return to the side with some outstanding spells and got England over the line with the bat in Leeds.
Stuart Broad – 8. Mr Ashes stood up tall once more against his favourite opponents to bow out from the game as England’s leading wicket-taker against Australia.
Mark Wood – 7. Loveable loon supplied a bolt of electricity to the England attack with his pace and some rapid runs down the order.
Jimmy Anderson – 4. One rodeo too far for the old stager. At 41, perhaps the time has come to bring down the curtain on a great career.
Ollie Robinson – 6. Back spasm cut a promising series short after winding up the Aussies at Edgbaston with spicy send-off for Usman Khawaja.
Josh Tongue – 7. Showed in his one appearance at Lord’s he could be the future for England’s attack. Quick and direct, he troubled the Aussies.
