Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is weighing up becoming the next Premier League star to make the move to the Middle East. The news will come as a hammer blow to both Jurgen Klopp and Gareth Southgate, who both hold the England international in high regard for the immediate future and won’t want him to leave the Reds.
Henderson has been a stalwart at Anfield over the last 12 years, guiding the club to success in the Premier League and on the European stage. However, with Klopp plotting a major shakeup in midfield, his club captain has been left pondering where his future lies.
Liverpool have acquired the services of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already this summer, and several other midfielders are also admired – including Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
Though the Reds may need more reinforcements in the middle of the park if Henderson opts to become the next established star to head to the Saudi Pro League. According to The Telegraph, the 33-year-old is weighing up whether to head to Saudi Arabia this summer amid interest from Al-Ettifaq.
The prospect of linking up with new manager Steven Gerrard could potentially prove persuasive in negotiations, though Liverpool are yet to receive a formal approach for the services of their club captain.
Southgate could also prove influential in the decision given that the Three Lions boss reportedly views Henderson as ‘pivotal’ to his plans ahead of next summer’s European championships – though whether that remains the case if the midfielder is competing against lesser opposition in Saudi Arabia remains to be seen.
