England have clinched victory over Brazil in the first ever Women’s Finalissima after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory.
Manchester United star Ella Toone scored the opening goal of the game in the meeting between the champions of Europe and South America in front of a sold-out Wembley.
Andressa Alves scored an injury time equaliser for the visitors to send the contest to spot-kicks.
But the hosts held their nerve to seal a 4-2 win with the hero of last summer’s European Championships win in Chloe Kelly lashing home in style.
The victory extends their unbeaten run to an incredible 30 games against the team ranked ninth in the world.
The Lionesses broke the deadlock after 23 minutes with Toone capping a superb team move.
Opening up Brazil down the right, Lucy Bronze provided the precise cutback for the 23-year-old forward to finish in style.
While England pushed for a second, Brazil clung on and claimed a deserved equaliser two minutes into added time.
In a final Brazilian surge forward, goalkeeper Mary Earps spilled a cross with Andressa Alves quickest to react, firing the loose ball into the roof of the net to force penalties.
In the second round of spot-kicks, Toone saw her effort saved but Earps made up for the earlier mistake with a stunning leap to her left to deny Tamires with Rachel Daly firing her side into the lead moments later.
Another miss from Brazil put England in control with Alex Greenwood converting emphatically to leave her side on the brink.
Manchester City striker Kelly, who scored England’s late winner in last summer’s European Championship final win over Germany, stepped up and hammered home the winning penalty to spark jubilant celebrations in London.
The Lionesses will look to add more silverware when they seek to bring home a first World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this summer.
