Eoin Morgan: Issues around Yorkshire CCC scandal needs to be met head-on

Tymal Mills and Mark Wood have reflected on England’s elimination from the T20 World Cup, describing the dressing room atmosphere after the game as “sombre”.

England were beaten in their semi-final by New Zealand, with Daryl Mitchell and Jimmy Neesham starring with the bat for the Kiwis.

Mills was unable to play in the game after suffering a thigh injury against Sri Lanka which ruled him out for the rest of the tournament.

However, the left-armer remained with the squad and watched the game unfold from the dugout, admitting he felt “like a spare part”.

Speaking on the Good Pace for Radio podcast, Mills said: “The dressing room was sombre. I didn’t play and didn’t know where to be.

“Everyone is gutted, Morgy [Eoin Morgan] was off doing press, everyone else is just in the changing room.

“I wanted to just leave it. You say ‘hard lines’ when you come off but when you haven’t played it is not the same.

“Everyone just wants to be left alone. I just took myself away and went back to the dugout. You feel like a spare part.”

Wood did play in the game, having been brought into the side as Mills’ replacement, and he finished with figures of 0-34 from his spell.

The Durham quick praised the way captain Morgan spoke to the squad and believes England will come back stronger for next year’s World Cup.

“I thought Morgs spoke brilliantly,” Wood added. “He said ‘we’re all in it together’. There was no blame game.
