England still ‘massively up for’ Ashes finale: Zak Crawley | Cricket News – Times of India

England remain determined to end the Ashes on a high note despite their series victory hopes being dashed, by securing a win in the final Test against Australia, according to batter Zak Crawley.

Australia retained the coveted urn after the fifth and final day of the drawn fourth Test was washed out due to wet weather. With the series standing at 2-1 in favour of Australia, England will enter the final Test at The Oval, commencing on Thursday, with the intention of salvaging their pride and building for the future.
The drawn fourth Test was a nail-biting affair for England, who were on the verge of staging an incredible comeback from being 2-0 down in the series.

Boosted by Zak Crawley’s sensational innings of 189, England posted an impressive first-innings total of 592.

Speaking to reporters, Crawley expressed the team’s eagerness to claim a victory in the final Test, asserting, “We’re massively up for it. Any game, you want to win. As Ben Stokes says, we’re building as a team, this isn’t the end just because it’s the end of the Ashes. Hopefully, it’s very much the start.”
Crawley further suggested that a 2-2 series scoreline would be a fair reflection of the closely contested battle between the two cricketing giants. He opined, “I think 2-2 would be fair. They had the better of us at Lord’s, Edgbaston could have gone either way, we probably deserved this one and Headingley could have gone either way. So I think 2-2 would be right.”

The batter believed that England was gaining an upper hand in the series and lamented the rain-affected draw, stating, “It felt like we were getting on top of them for sure, and if we’d won this game, it would have been very interesting to see. They’ve got some very good players, and they would have bounced back, but the momentum would have been with us for sure.”
