England have won the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup final in front of a world-record crowd for the sport.
It was a night to remember as the nation got behind the team and saw then earn a 28-24 victory against France in a sporting occasion that will live long in the memory.
England record the victory in the most dramatic of circumstances as Tom Halliwell scored a try just two minutes from full-time to see of the existing champions.
Even better was how sports fans around the country embraced the event the final clash broadcast on BBC 2 and topping the list of trending topics on social media as supporters were gripped by the high-octane indoor sport.
It was a feisty match to say the least between the two rivals, with France holding a narrow 14-12 lead at half-time in Manchester, teeing them up for their third World Cup victory in a row.
However Tom Coyd’s side fought back in the second half to set up a tense finale with the scores level at 24-24 with just three minutes left.
However England’s captain Halliwell, the 23-year-old Leeds Rhinos player, made himself the star of the show after squeezing through the France defence to spark wild celebrations in front of a world-record 4,526 crowd.
Here’s hoping that England’s football team can take some inspiration from the achievements of the group.
