Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav’s valiant effort against England on Sunday in the third T20I at Trent Bridge.

England had posted a commanding total of 215, thanks to Dawid Malan’s brilliant knock of 77. He received support from Liam Livingstone, who scored a quick-fire 40. A couple of cameos from harry Brook and Chris Jordan allowed England to reach the total in the allotted overs.

Chasing the mamooth total, India got off to the worst possible start as Rishabh Pant fell to Reece Topley in the second over. Virat Kohli soon followed and India found themselves at 13 for 2.

Rohit Sharma’s indifferent innings came to a close at the end of the fifth over as the visitors had registered just 31 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Yadav was joined by Shreyas Iyer and the Mumbai Indians batter took it upon himself to attack the English bowlers and get close to the target.

The duo put on a 119-run partnership with Yadav scoring the bulk of the scoring and he brought up his first T20I hundred. He continued the onslaught but ultimately perished for 117 runs off just 55 balls. His innings consisted of 14 boundaries and six sixes.

The right-handed batter’s innings received praise from all corners and Jaffer is the latest to applaud Yadav for his valiant effort. The former Indian batter took to Twitter and said that Yadav almost pulled off a miracle on Sunday in Trent Bridge.

“SKY going after England’s 215, almost pulling off a miracle: #ENGvIND,” said Jaffer.

Apart from Yadav, none of the Indian batter failed to make a mark in the third T20I. Once the right-handed batter returned to the pavilion, England quickly wrapped things up and the Indian innings came to an end at 198 for the loss of nine wickets.
