Aston Villa have sold winger Anwar El Ghazi to Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven for £2.5million.

El Ghazi spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton, yet made just two cameo appearances for Frank Lampard’s side.

The 27-year-old first joined the Villans on loan in 2018 and made 36 appearances as the west Midlands side were promoted to the Premier League – before making the move permanent in 2019.

The Ajax academy graduate scored 26 goals in 119 appearances during his four-year stint at Villa Park, but had just one-year remaining on his deal at Villa.

The winger has failed to feature in any of Steven Gerrard’s side’s opening four games of the Premier League season.

PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was seeking a wide player in the summer transfer window to replace injured Englishman Noni Madueke.

Transfer chiefs at the Philips Stadion are also bracing themselves for a flurry of interest in star attacker Cody Gakpo in the closing week of the transfer window.

Villa have also offloaded wingers Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet this summer to Istanbul Basaksehir and Trabzonspor respectively.
