Erik Spoelstra responded to Conor McGregor attacking the Miami Heat mascot.
During Friday’s Game 4 loss to Denver Nuggets, the fighter engaged in what appeared to be a planned bit to promote a pain-relief spray. McGregor landed a hard left hook on Burnie, punching him again on the ground.
Speaking to reporters Sunday, per WPLG’s Will Manso, Spoelstra commented on the strange situation.
“That’s Miami Heat toughness we’re talking about, “Spoelstra said. “He should have been allowed to take the first swing. We won’t reveal who that is, but he’s tough. You take and punch and get back up.”

Spoelstra jokingly confirmed that Burnie is not expected to miss any time. However, that may not be true for the person under the costume.
The man playing the mascot was reportedly taken to the emergency room after the incident. He was released after receiving pain medication and is doing well.
Burnie’s season is over anyway unless the Heat can extend the NBA Finals with a Game 5 win Monday night at Denver.
