Erik ten Hag has decided to keep Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and has advised the club to trigger a 12-month extension clause in the defender’s contract.

The right-back joined United from Crystal Palace for a fee of £45m in 2019.

While Wan-Bissaka was a mainstay under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick favoured Diogo Dalot.

Ten Hag appeared to feel the same on his appointment last summer and Wan-Bissaka didn’t make an appearance until December last term.

United explored a deal for Jeremie Frimpong in January but the Glazers were reluctant to release funds, which forced Ten Hag into two loan deals for Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer.

But the Dutchman has since dropped plans to sign competition for Dalot as Wan-Bissaka forced his way into the starting line-up towards the end of the season, and he even started the FA Cup final.

And The Sun claim Ten Hag now wants to keep Wan-Bissaka as he’s part of his long-term plans.

The defender’s contract expires next summer, at which point he will become a free agent.

Wan-Bissaka could sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st if his situation continues.

But it’s claimed United will trigger a 12-month extension clause in his deal before sitting down to discuss an extension.
