Sancho is normally deployed as a left winger but Ten Hag is considering whether or not to reshape the 23-year-old into more of a central attacker.
The England international has started as a false nine in friendlies against Lyon, Leeds United and Arsenal this summer.
Sancho put in a strong performance in the 2-0 win over the Gunners on Saturday, scoring the second goal and impressed with both his pressing and hold-up play.
According to The Athletic, Ten Hag has been ‘encouraged’ by Sancho’s performances in the position and may decide to play him there in the Premier League, with the Red Devils still yet to bring in a new striker this summer.
United were tipped to sign Harry Kane ahead of the 2023-24 campaign and the Tottenham striker was keen on the move but Ten Hag’s side pulled out of the race due to his £100m price tag.
They were linked to French international striker Randal Kolo Muani but again withdrew their interest as they felt he was not worth his his £86m valuation.
United have now turned their attentions towards Rasmus Hojlund instead – but they are unwilling to spend more than £60m on the Atalanta star.
Sancho, meanwhile, has largely struggled at United since his £73m move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.
He has made 79 appearances for United to date, registering just 12 goals and six assists.
