MANILA, Philippines—Errol Spence Jr. provided a striking comparison between him and Terence Crawford ahead of their evenly-matched undisputed megafight in July.
Spence turned to another sport, relating himself to NBA legend Tim Duncan while comparing Crawford to another basketball icon in Kevin Garnett.
Like Spence and Crawford, the two Hall of Famers are deemed somewhat equal rivals too. Although, one could certainly make a strong case that Duncan was better having achieved more success than Garnett.
Duncan won five championships throughout his 19-year NBA career all with the San Antonio Spurs while Garnett, who played for three teams, only has one title to show after he won it tall with the Boston Celtics in 2008.
“I feel like, just, I’m the stronger fighter. I feel like I am more durable, especially if we stand there and we just go at it. I just have the better fundamentals. I am the Tim Duncan of boxing,” Spence said on boxingscene.com.
“I have all of the fundamentals. The jab, the hook, blocking, whatever it is. I can do everything right. I’m going to be the better fighter overall. He has a lot of talent and skills. He can move. If I compare it to basketball, it’s like Tim Duncan versus Kevin Garnett.”
Spence (28-0, 22KOs) and Crawford (39-0, 30KOs) clash on July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
