The Magpies had been linked with a move for the Brazilian midfielder ever since the club was taken over by a consortium spearheaded by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Reuben Brothers.
Unfortunately for Eddie Howe’s side, Sport also claims Coutinho is not interested in a move to the Premier League strugglers, despite their overwhelming financial power.
While a move to St James’ Park appears to be out of the question, Coutinho’s future at the club remains finite.
Barcelona is reportedly so desperate to remove Coutinho’s salary from their wage bill, they have even discussed the prospect of terminating his Barcelona contract completely.
The club have also launched an ‘SOS message’ to the Brazilian and his agents Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci, asking them to do whatever it takes to move Coutinho onto a new club.
