The Phoenix Suns will reportedly add a big name to NBA’s upcoming free agency. According to TNT’s Chris Haynes, they’re waiving Chris Paul.
Even at age 38, the point guard will likely attract some suitors. However, many fans have the same guess on where he’ll land.
Several NBA observers see Paul joining his close friend, LeBron James, on the Los Angeles Lakers.
Chris Paul is a Laker.

… Well then. Depending on what CP3’s priorities are, I would now say there’s a decent chance he’s about to become a Laker. https://t.co/5fJLzCRCzp

Paul’s relationship with James will certainly fuel speculation. The Banana Boat buddies may relish the opportunity to team up near the end of their Hall of Fame careers.
The Lakers have turned to other veteran point guards recently. Rajon Rondo had a forgettable stint with them in 2021-22, and they abandoned the Russell Westbrook experiment during this year’s midseason roster overhaul.
While D’Angelo Russell provided a spark late in the season, he averaged just 6.3 points and 3.5 points per game during the Western Conference Finals. Paul would solidify the position next season and give Los Angeles a true ball distributor to take some of the burden off of James.
Per Haynes, Paul wants to sign with a championship contender and play “several more years.” He could have a chance to join the Lakers 12 years after David Stern vetoed a trade that would have altered the course of the franchise and CP3’s career.
