Playing with LeBron James certainly has its perks. During his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, LeBron made eight straight trips to the NBA Finals, winning three NBA titles in that span.
He also added a fourth championship in 2020, winning a ring in the bubble with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite all of the accolades, one former teammate of LeBron’s says there’s also a dark side to playing with the perennial All-Star.
In an interview for “Game Theory with Bomani Jones,” J.R. Smith talked about what it was like to play with LeBron.
“Honestly, it’s a gift and a curse playing with Bron,” Smith said. “I love Bron to death and I loved playing on his team because, for me, I feel I thrived more under the pressure.”
Smith won two titles on two different teams with LeBron, first with the Cavaliers in 2016 and then with the Lakers in 2020. He also was there for one of LeBron’s all-time lowlights in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, running out the clock at the end of the 4th quarter in a game tied at 107.
LeBron’s teammates are under a lot of scrutiny, but the championships likely make it all worth it.
