While the annual Cannes Film Festival may be over, there’s more glamorous entertainment to enjoy from the French Riviera locale, thanks to the new series Cannes Confidential. The Acorn TV original begins streaming on June 26th, and will bring murder, mystery, and romance to the gorgeous setting with a brief but bingeable crime series that will appear to fans of beloved international crime shows like Midsomer Murders (because they were created by the same person — Chris Murray).
An intersection of police procedural shows with the wide world of art, the six-part series stars French actor Lucie Lucas (Clem, Porto and Gloria) as a local detective in Cannes, and the popular Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica, Strike Back) as a shady international art collector with an interesting family history who becomes entangled in the criminal investigation. You can check out an exclusive clip from the series below, along with its official synopsis and more information.
Camille Delamarre Directs Jamie Bamber in Cannes
You can check out the delightfully sardonic back-and-forth between the two leads in the above clip, along with the highly stylized score and visuals, perfect accompaniments to the classy cars, suits, and buildings that decorate the show and its gorgeous Cannes locale. Check out the official synopsis below for more:
“Cannes Confidential is a high-concept detective series centered on the bicker-banter relationship between no-nonsense detective Camille Delmasse (Lucas) and charming international conman Harry King (Bamber). Thrown together solving crimes on the French Riviera, Camille and Harry’s relationship lies at the heart of the show against a luxurious Cannes backdrop. Camille and Harry’s chemistry is complicated by Camille’s colleague and wing-woman, Léa Robert (Marthe), and a deal they make to free Camille’s ex-Chief of Police father from corruption charges.”
Cannes Confidential is executive produced by Patrick Nebout (Midnight Sun, Agent Hamilton), Henrik Jansson-Schweizer (Thicker Than Water, Midnight Sun), Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer of Acorn Media Enterprises (Acorn TV’s commissioning, co-producing, and development division), International Drama Development & Artistic Acquisitions Department of TF1, and Lotta Dolk of Viaplay. The series is produced by Daniel J. Cottin at Isolani Pictures. Camille Delamarre (The Transporters, Assassin Club, Netflix’s Into The Night) directed all six episodes.
Delamarre is an interesting choice for Cannes Confidential. He’s skilled at photographing dapper and gorgeous people, and placing them in the context of intense action and suspence without ever losing their sex appeal, something on display in his recent film Assassin Club and his iteration of The Transporter franchise.
While the whole cast is delightful, it’s especially nice to see Jamie Bamber. The actor is perhaps most famous for the brilliant sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, and rightfully so; his performance as a privileged and pampered but nonetheless passionate pilot was one of the greatest aspects of the gamechanging series, and his emotional (and literally physical) transformations throughout the show were stunning to watch.
With a wonderful cast and excellent crew, Cannes Confidential is set to be a warm, addictive, and entertaining hit for Acorn TV, which can be added to different streaming services like Prime Video and AMC+. You can check out the trailer to Cannes Confidential below.
