Is there anything more entertaining than when a man wrestles with an alligator? The answer, of course, is no. And thankfully, we have an exclusive clip of just such a battle, as man named Big Jimbo fights an alligator in a new clip for the new action horror flick, The Flood. Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and Saban Films, and led by Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien, The Flood finds a group of people at the mercy of many a giant, CGI alligator after a hurricane. Check out our exclusive clip from The Flood above.
“After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators,” the official synopsis for The Flood reads. “When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers. To survive, the prisoners and guards must fight together, in this action-thriller packed with slithery scares and jaw-clenching suspense.”
Directed by Brandon Slagle and written by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway, The Flood sees Starship Troopers staple and Alita: Battle Angel star Casper Van Dien doing the kind of B-movie thrills he does best, with the supporting cast comprised of Nicky Whelan (Hall Pass) as Sheriff Newman, Louis Mandylor (Rambo: Last Blood) as Rafe Calderon, Devanny Pinn (Piranha 3D) as Sommer Edward, Randy Wayne (To Save a Life) as Dale Elkins, Ryan Francis (The Getback) as Jay Stamper, Kim DeLonghi (Maneater) as Eva Carter, Mike Ferguson (The Last Deal) as Floyd McGraw, and Eoin O’Brien (Never Back Down: No Surrender) as ‘Big Jim’ Pruett.
The Flood Promises No-Nonsense, Man vs. Beast Action
Star Casper Van Dien has revealed exclusively to MovieWeb that, a lot of the time, the threat from filming The Flood was absolutely real. “We were in abandoned buildings that they tried to waterproof, but then they pour the water into it, but you know, the building has rats and snakes and bugs and dirt,” he said. “The water is clean when they put it in, then everybody’s walking through it, and it eventually gets muddy and your clothes very dirty. And there’s always this threat of possibly a rat or a snake. That part made it the threat always more real, actually. You don’t want to be bitten by a rat or snake.”
The Flood promises just the kind of no-nonsense action and thrills that’s required from time to time, with director Brandon Slagle explaining exactly what The Flood is all about in a statement, “There’s no agenda here. There’s no deeper meaning. It’s far from politically correct… [The film is] a rip-roaring, foul-mouthed, down-and-dirty ride. Man versus Beast – or BEASTS.”
And it sounds like The Flood mostly delivers, with MovieWeb’s own Cameron Bolton heaping praise on Van Dien. “Van Dien proves yet again that he’s a charismatic leading man,” writes Bolton, calling the cinematography and set design “also pretty good at points, such as when slow-motion takes over at times throughout the well-crafted, claustrophobic setting,” before concluding that The Flood offers just the right amount of “silly, simple fun.”
The Flood will be available In Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023.
