Manasvi Mamgai is back in the spotlight with her new OTT project, The Trial – Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha. The actress, who has been away from the big screen, spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about her experience working on the show, plans for the future, and more. Mamgai said that she was initially nervous about working with Kajol, but that the actress was “the most approachable person ever.” She also praised the show’s script, which she said: “Holds a mirror up to society.”

Sharing her experience of working with Kajol, Mamgai asserted, “Eight years ago, I debuted with Ajay Devgn in a movie, Action Jackson. It was like life coming full circle. I was kind of very nervous to do this initially because she’s such a big star. I don’t know if she’ll be approachable, but she’s like the most approachable person ever.”
She further added, “And it’s so funny, she was kind of pulling my leg. I had a very famous song with Ajay Devgn titled ‘Gangster Baby.’ The first day, she was pulling my leg by singing that song the whole time. So it’s kind of a fun moment. And, on the set, she was supporting me as an actor; giving me some tips. I had an amazing time with her.”
While calling herself a student of life, Manasvi recalled starting working at the age of 16-17. She said, “I’ve always been very inquisitive, very curious, which is why I moved to the US as well. Acting has always been my passion. I’ve always been exploring other things. Even though you haven’t seen me on screen, that is just one aspect of my life. There are other things that I’ve been doing in life and in other ways growing and then I feel also as an actor. Your constant job is to experience life, different things and different aspects of life.”
As the conversation progressed further, she opened up about the reason for staying away from Bollywood projects. She stated, “I didn’t like the things that were being offered to me at that time. I’m one of those people, who don’t like to play safe roles. Even if you see Action Jackson, it was a very unconventional role. I always look for something. I don’t like playing it safe. I didn’t get anything, which I was like, ‘Hey, this is what I want to do’. And then this came my way. And it’s attractive. Because it’s the kind of role that is reflective of what’s happening in society and kind of holds the mirror up to society, especially in India. I thought it was very interesting. And I thought this is the right role for me and all combined into acting.”
She concluded by admitting that she “would love to explore OTT space.” She said, “In fact, I’ve been in the US for almost seven years. So I also kind of miss home. I would love to be back in India. I’d love to explore it.”
