Exclusive: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, Muse Lead 2023 ALTer EGO Show In Los Angeles

iHeartRadio’s alternative music showcase, ALTer EGO is returning to L.A.’s Kia Forum this coming January 14, 2023. The Red Hot Chili Peppers top another absurdly stacked bill that also includes Jack White, Muse, Fall Out Boy, Phoenix, CHVRCHES, Beach Weather and Rosa Linn.

Lisa Worden, Program Director for L.A.-based ALT 98.7 and Vice President of Rock and Alternative for iHeartMedia, tells me exclusively she began planning this year’s show right after the 2022 concert, which included Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin and more.

For Worden, the show began with headliners the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “My one band that I targeted first was Red Hot Chili Peppers. And that was my labor of love, like, ‘Alright, I gotta have them,'” she says. “They’re iconic in Southern California, they mean so much to Los Angeles, they’re one of our most played artists on ALT 98.7. It was just a constant conversation and they were one of the first artists to lock into the show. I’m so grateful to them.”

According to Worden, White was the next act to sign on for ALTer EGO 2023. And with him the tone was set for this year’s lineup. ” Jack White was the second artist to lock in. And right there I was like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna have a big rock show here,'” she says.

While this will be a big rock show, the two main tenets of the gig since it kicked off in 2018 with Mumford And Sons, Cage The Elephant, Beck, Spoon, The National and more, is that the concert is a vehicle for both superstars and up and comers and all styles of the current alternative scene.

That, Worden explains, is how she rounded out the bill. ” When we started playing the Beach Weather record, which I’m just absolutely in love with, I’m like, ‘Let’s put them on.’ And then Fall Out Boy, who are gonna have new music in the new year. So it organically came together,” she says. “Phoenix were one of the last pieces of the puzzle. They came in later on, maybe a month ago. And it was just because I looked at it and I went, ‘I want something really alternative on here, like something really poppy and kind of represents that super alternative vibe.’ Because again I try to hit on all the various sounds and have an experience for the listeners where they’re experiencing all different types of music. We are thrilled to have CHVRCHES on the show – they are amazing live and are such a strong compliment to this eclectic bill. Lauren [Mayberry] is one of our favorite alternative front women! And finally Rosa Linn is one of my favorite new artists to come out this year.”

Worden has a head start on next year’s wish list. Now that she got the Chili Peppers this year her 2024 sights are set on My Chemical Romance and Paramore. And beyond that her ultimate dream gets — The Cure and Depeche Mode.

The Capital One presale begins October 25 at 10 am PST. And tickets for the 2023 ALTer EGO show go on sale to the general public at noon PST on October 28.
