It is a known fact that in recent times, soon after the release of the film in theatres, they release on OTT platforms soon post its release. The film lasts in the platform forever and it is also seen that there are several films that do well in these platforms as well. Often, films are pressurized to match upto the competition considering the plethora of movies available on these platforms. When Bollywood Hungama asked veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya about the kind of competition on OTT and what is his mantra to compete with this massive encyclopedia of movies, the Uunchai director had the calmest answer.

EXCLUSIVE: Sooraj Barjatya reveals that competition kills originality; says, “Take a good story and justify it”

Speaking about the competition on OTT, Sooraj Barjatya told Bollywood Hungama, “Main pressure nahi leta hoon because agar aap competition mein jayenge toh originality nahi de payenge. Sab humari sincerity pe hai. Aap achhi kahani le jismein nau ras ho aur aap apni kahani ko justify karein. Agar kahani demand karti hai ki crore rupaiyee kharch karne hai toh kariye but aap apne kahani ko justice kariye. Agar competition karenge toh woh nainsaafi hogi. (I don’t take any pressure because if we keep thinking about competition, we will not be able to give you originality. What we need is sheer sincerity. Take a good story which has all the nine rasas and make sure that you justify the story. If your story demands a big budget film worth crores of rupees, then do it because all is fare as far as you can do justice to it. If you get into the competition race, then that would be unfair.)”

Sooraj Barjatya is gearing up for the release of Uunchai starring Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher along with Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Parineeti Chopra in pivotal roles. The film is slated to release on November 11.
