Bollywood actress Yami Gautam is promoting her upcoming movie Lost. The investigative thriller will see her play the role of a crime journalist. The actress recently spoke at length about the upcoming project and how different it is from other thrillers.
EXCLUSIVE: Yami Gautam says Lost co-star Pankaj Kapur is ‘detail-oriented’: ‘He believes that small things make a huge difference’
Talking about her experience while shooting with Pankaj Kapur and Rahul Khanna, Yami said, “I had a blast working with Pankaj sir, Rahul, and everybody else. Pankaj sir is a legend. No number of words will give justice to the amount of respect I have for his work. What an amazing actor he is! Indeed, an inspiration to all of us. We would talk about his previous work, and he would give incredible insights. There is so much to be discussed about his characters way back then and even today. Years ago, when directors and producers wouldn’t be comfortable sharing scripts, Pankaj sir never signed a film or a TV show without reading the script in those days. That is a principle he follows even today. He is very detail-oriented and believes that small things make a huge difference while essaying characters. It may catch the eye of the audience or may not but builds that narrative.”
She continued, “I worked with Rahul for the first time, and he brings so much ease in every scene. He is phenomenal. There were a few crucial scenes where we would read it a couple of times and directly shoot. It was almost a one-take shot. Of course, we had to take one or two angles but it was just so smooth. Again, Honey or Tushar or Pia everyone has done a fantastic job. It was pretty much a team of a good bunch of actors. Apart from that, I would also like to mention the technical team. Avik da has added so much technical prowess to the film. I was so happy when Tony da spoke highly of his team and his technical team. These are the people who make your film and translate the brilliance of actors. Also, Shantanu da’s music is beautiful. I cannot wait for the audience to listen to the songs he has created. I think all the departments have contributed in their maximum capacity to make LOST a masterpiece.”
The actress said, “I am excited that it is premiering on ZEE5. It is my first-ever collaboration with the platform. Speaking about collaborations, I believe all my firsts be it with my directors or producers have turned out to be fruitful and profitable. I am hoping that with LOST, we can create some special memories both for ZEE5 and myself.”
When asked how the movie is different from other investigative thrillers, Yami added, “I think Lost is different from other thrillers because it is not a mainstream investigative thriller but also sets an undertone of an emotional drama. It captures incidents, which won’t ever cross your mind otherwise. It sheds light on today’s fast-paced world, where you don’t have time to breathe or look around at what the person beside you might be going through. We humans are concerned about ourselves and take responsibility for ourselves. Lost in its own unique way talks about humanity and the integrity of the current media scenario in a very subtle way. This is where I would regard it not just as an investigative thriller but also a gut-wrenching human drama.”
Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and produced by Zee Studios, Namah Pictures, Sam Fernandes, Indrani Mukherjee, the direct-to-digital film features an ensemble and compelling star cast consisting of Yami Gautam Dhar, Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Neil Bhoopalam, Tushar Pandey and Pia Bajpiee in key roles. After Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2022, the Atlanta Indian Film Festival 2022 and the 53rd International Film Festival of India, Lost will now premiere in Hindi on 16th February on ZEE5.
