Explanied: Alleged rape charges of Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi

What are the charges?

As per the reports filed by the victim, the woman was raped by Hakimi at his place with the alleged incident taking place last Saturday. Hakimi and the lady reportedly were in touch via social media since January this year. They didn’t really get together until last weekend while Hakimi’s partner Hiba Abouk and the couple’s kids were on vacation in Dubai. Things apparently got wrong in the meeting where Hakimi as per the woman raped and molested her.

What is Hakimi’s current status?

On Thursday, Hakimi was questioned by detectives looking into rape claims. The 24-year-old was placed under judicial monitoring by an investigating judge but now has been charged with rape. His lawyer however has made a statement suggesting Hakimi is a victim of racketeering. His wife however has distanced herself from the incident and since separated because of the allegation.

What is Paris Saint Germain’s point of view?

Following the original allegation, PSG sent a statement to the French media in support of Hakimi, suggesting that the player had denied any wrongdoing and believe in justice. He however is yet to play a game for them since the accusation. A recent hamstring injury has prevented him from playing against Nantes. He is yet to be taken into police custody and practised with his team recently. However, it is unknown if Hakimi will represent PSG in the Round of 16 Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich in the second leg or not.
