Fabio Capello’s former assistant manager Italo Galbiati has died at the age of 85, it has been announced.

Galbiati worked as part of Capello’s backroom staff when the Italian was in charge of England between 2007 and 2012.

He also worked with Capello at Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Roma.

Galbiati also served as Capello’s assistant during his spell in charge of Russia.

The former midfielder had served as a caretaker manager on several occasions for AC Milan, before becoming an integral part of Capello’s coaching team.

Galbiati first served as Capello’s assistant at AC Milan, where the Italian head coach leading the club to four Serie A titles and the Champions League in the 1990s.

Capello and Galbiati worked together at Real Madrid, guiding the Spanish giants to the La Liga title in 1997 and repeating the feat in a second spell in charge in 2007.

The coaching team also won Serie A with Roma in 2001.

Galbiati had recently been working with Monza, helping the Serie A side’s youth development.

Galbiati was reportedly considered to be the ‘good cop’ compared to Capello, with the Italian having closer relationship with players.

The coaching team led England to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the Three Lions were beaten in the last-16 by Germany.

Galbiati had been a player prior to beginning his coaching career, initially starting out at Inter Milan.

The midfielder only made one appearance for Inter before representing Lecce.

Galbiati ended his playing career at Como.
