Fact Check: MS Dhoni viral video earned Candy Crush over 3 million downloads – Its Fake News!

The video also captured a tab on the tray in front of Dhoni’s seat, where the game Candy Crush was being played. The former skipper playing Candy Crush sparked a massive hike for the game on social media. #CandyCrush started trending on Twitter in India as netizens went ballistic.

Many went to resort nostalgia for the game, while many appreciated Dhoni’s hobby of playing such a modest game. Dhoni’s humble mentality to board an economy flight just like an ordinary citizen was also appreciated.

But it generated another viral tweet which claimed the mobile game application Candy Crush had earned 3.6 million downloads in just three hours. Within hours of the viral video, Candy Crush was a trending topic in India, but was the tweet a genuine one?

“Just In – We Got 3.6 Million New Downloads in Just 3 Hours. Thanks to the Indian Cricket Legend @msdhoni. We are Trending In India Just Because Of You,” Candy Crush’s official Twitter account made a tweet.

An account named Candy Crush Saga Official made the tweet and it went rounds in social media. But when checked closely, MyKhel could understand the username was @teams_dream, which is by no means the official Twitter id of the game. Hence it was a FAKE report which was circulating on social media.

Yes, MS Dhoni’s video made the game trending in the country, but the news of it garnering millions of new users was nothing but a hoax and fake news.
