Fans rip Georgia ‘culture’ after Jamaal Jarrett’s racist NFL Draft comment

Fans on Twitter are criticizing the Georgia football “culture” after recruit Jamaal Jarrett uttered a racist remark during a live stream of the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday.

Jarrett, a four-star defensive tackle recruit who committed to play under Kirby Smart starting in 2023, derogatorily said “ching chong” while an Asian child announced the Falcons’ eighth pick in the draft – and now some are calling for consequences.

“Suspend him and public apology needed,” one Twitter user wrote.

Others took the comments as a sign of systemic problems within the University of Georgia organization.

“Are you surprised? That’s the culture at Georgia,” one user wrote.

“This is literally the culture they impose at Georgia,” wrote another.

Jarrett, live streaming the draft on his Instagram account, made the comment as he was urging the Falcons to draft Jalen Carter, a fellow Bulldog who has been at the subject of controversy of his own.

Carter was charged with reckless driving in relation to a car crash that killed his teammate, offensive lineman Devin Willock, and team staffer Chandler LeCroy after he was allegedly racing that car before it crashed into a power pole.

The team was out celebrating Georgia’s national championship victory over TCU.

Carter avoided jail time as part of a deal to plead no contest to misdemeanor charges.

Now, Jarrett has stirred up more controversy for the program.

Even worse, the child at the subject of his remark lost his father at the age of 9 to brain cancer, and was a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program – who gave him the opportunity to announce the Falcons’ pick in Kansas City.

The Falcons did not select Carterl instead, they selected Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson.

Carter ended up falling all the way to the Eagles with the No. 9 pick after being a candidate to go first overall before the off-field issues came to light.
