ESPN’s latest round of cost-cutting layoffs are here, and they’re affecting long-term television personalities and talent.

Jeff Van Gundy has been with ESPN for over 15 years, calling several massive playoff series as well as multiple NBA Finals with Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.

It appears that Van Gundy has called his final game for ESPN.

According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, the network is letting Van Gundy go as part of the newest round of layoffs.

Some fans are upset to see Van Gundy go, and they expressed their sadness on social media.

“The one who is most willing to be honest, objective & outspoken about what he sees live including calling out refs on their bs,” said football data analyst Warren Sharp.

“I HATE this. I actually love listening to JVG call games. Dude loves/knows basketball, calls it like it is, makes fun of himself, nothing’s too serious,” one fan said.

“WHAT!!! Imagine parting ways with one of the best analysts in sports,” another fan said.’

I become a smarter basketball fan when I listen to Jeff Van Gundy break down the game,” another fan said.

“He tells it like it is and provides a unique voice on the broadcast. ESPN is making a big mistake here.”

The current plan is for one of J.J. Redick, Doris Burke or Richard Jefferson to take over for Van Gundy as one of the NBA’s lead color analysts.
