Fast X’s Opening Scene Released Prior Its Digital Debut; With Jason Momoa’s Villain Beginning His Quest For Revenge

Fast X has been winning the box office for weeks since it first premiered. Despite receiving mixed reviews from movie critics, the latest installment from the franchise has already bagged a massive $660 million, as of this writing. Fast X still has the horsepower to achieve this but not enough to outrace its two predecessors, F9 and The Fate of the Furious as per CBR.

Fast X was directed Louis Leterrier and penned by screenwriters Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau. The film spins a tale of a ghost from the past seeking retribution. The story’s antagonist, Dante Reyes, is played by the ever-charismatic Jason Momoa. Just weeks following its theatrical debut, Universal Pictures treated fans to a sneak peek by releasing the film’s opening scene online, a move that occurred in the lead-up to its digital release on June 9.

The opening scene harks back to an episode from Fast Five in 2011, where Dom Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor find themselves caught in a daring heist involving the family vault of Hernan Reyes, a drug lord. The fallout from this audacious theft results in Hernan’s demise and lights the fuse for his son Dante’s plot for vengeance.

The ensemble cast of Fast X includes franchise stalwarts like Diesel’s Dom Toretto, Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty Ortiz, and Sung Kang’s Han. To bring in something fresh, the film added in the star power of Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Daniela Melchor (The Suicide Squad), and Alan Ritchson (Reacher series). The recently added members of the cast are also back starting from Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cena, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.

Jason Momoa Pumped In More Adrenaline

Dante Reyes, portrayed masterfully by Momoa, has been recognized as one of the franchise’s most compelling villains. His charismatic and menacing performance has earned him accolades from critics and co-stars alike, with Rodriguez even branding Momoa as the “best main villain” in the series’ history. However, these praises have stirred the pot, leading to rumors of Vin Diesel being less than thrilled with the spotlight on Momoa.

In crafting Dante’s character, the filmmakers wanted him to be a stark contrast to Dom Toretto. Director Leterrier reveals that Dante was designed to be Dom’s diametric opposite. While Dom is bald, Dante sports a head full of hair; Dom has a penchant for black, Dante is fond of colors; Dom carries a cross, Dante dons a devil belt. The counterbalance between these two characters injects an added layer of intrigue to the story.

Fast X has already enjoyed weeks-worth of cinema playtime now fans can start viewing it at the comfort of their own home. It can also be purchased digitally in SD, HD and UHD formats hosted on multiple streaming platforms.
