Producers of the CBS series decided to drop Noth, 67, after the former Sex and The City star was accused of sexual assault in December.
Episodes featuring Noth’s William Bishop, a former CIA director who surreptitiously worked with Latifah’s Robyn McCall as she helped people in need, aired until Jan. 2.
But on Sunday night, writers explained where the character has been in the six episodes that have aired since then. McCall, a former CIA operative, learns that Bishop has been investigating a case in Europe with ties to an old adversary, Mason Quinn (Chris Vance).
Bishop is killed when a plane he is travelling on is shot down by Quinn.
After Quinn kills her mentor, the villain calls her from Bishop’s phone: “This is the second time you’ve gotten in my way. Don’t come for me again because then I’ll have to come after you.”

“We are figuring out what we want to do creatively on the show and how we’re going to deal with that character,” Latifah told People (the TV Show!), after the allegations against Noth first went public. “Chris’s character’s obviously a big part of the show and it was amazing chemistry, amazing chemistry. And my feeling is justice has to prevail regardless. I just want the right things to be done, you know?”
Noth was fired from the show after two women, under the pseudonyms of “Zoe” and “Lily,” detailed sexual assault allegations against Noth in an extensive article in The Hollywood Reporter. The alleged incidents stemmed from interactions with the actor in Los Angeles and New York.
Noth denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false” and claiming the encounters were consensual.
Noth, who played Detective Mike Logan in the original iteration of Law & Order as well as the spinoff Law & Order: Criminal Intent, is best known for appearing as Mr. Big on Sex and The City, a part he recently reprised in its sequel And Just Like That.
The Equalizer airs Sunday nights on CBS and Global.
