Wout van Aert abandons the Tour de France. It was known that it was something very probable, with his pregnant wife Sarah about to give birth for the 2nd time. With a video posted on social media, the Belgian star, one of the great cyclists of today due to his tremendous versatility and power, has announced that after the time trial he decided that it was time to return to be by his partner’s side. That day Vingegaard, his teammate and team leader, already gave a big blow in the general; Yesterday there was still time to widen the differences and definitively sentence the Tour de France after Pogacar’s bird.
So that, Wout van Aert leaves the Tour with the feeling of having fulfilled his missionwith the job done. Despite the fact that this year he has not been able to win any stage, something surprising despite the difficulty of winning on the Tour. In 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 van Aert had managed to reach the finish line 1st at least once getting nine stages in these four editions.
“It’s a strange feeling, but not a dilemma, the decision was easy to make. I have always said that I would go home when my wife told me that she needed me. That moment has come. My teammates understand the decision and support me 100%.”he himself recounted in the video in which he announced his return home.
