Happy Thursday!
We’re finally feeling a bit of that normal summertime heat just in time for the Fourth of July weekend and all of these new music festival and concert announcements.
But, before I just dive into all of this fantastic and upbeat news, I do want to address something serious.
Concerts and music festivals should always be a safe space. It’s where individuals of all walks of life go to cut loose from the heaviness of life, to be entertained, to experience a moment with old friends while making memories with new ones, to dance, to sing, to drink, laugh and be merry.
Unfortunately, there have been several tragedies as of late at these larger-scale events, the most recent being the shootings at Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland in Washington State on June 17 that killed two former Southern California residents who were just out to enjoy a day of music.
It’s tragic. It’s heartbreaking. It’s unimaginable. It sucks.
When these things happen, sometimes the events themselves get overshadowed by the finger pointing and arguing that inevitably follows. We can debate, demand change and hold people accountable for their actions.
But at the end of the day and from a fan perspective, we need to take care of each other and maybe be just a little kinder to one another. Live music and these communal experiences are vital. The COVID-19 shutdown of most concert events in 2020 and 2021 clearly indicated as such.
Live in the moment, but be aware of your surroundings.
Buy the tickets. Sing even if you’re off key. Wear the outfit you spent weeks or months planning. Take the selfies. Dance with strangers and truly celebrate the unique experience that concerts and music festivals provide.
Stay safe.
All of that said, we do have a lot of live events on the horizon.
