FIFA World Cup: Lewandowski misses penalty as Poland and Mexico play out a goalless draw | Football News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Poland’s record-goalscorer Robert Lewandowski failed to convert a penalty as they drew 0-0 against Mexico in their opening World Cup match at Stadium 974 on Tuesday. The missed penalty meant Lewandowski is yet to open his account at the premier tournament.
The goalless result left Saudi Arabia as the Group C leaders with three points, after their stunning victory over favourites Argentina earlier in the day. Mexico and Poland shared a point each from the match.

Mexico played most of the attacking football in Stadium 974 but Poland won their penalty in the 56th minute when Hector Moreno pulled down Lewandowski only for the Polish captain to shoot too close to Guillermo Ochoa, who saved.
Mexico brought on Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez as a substitute, capping his return from injury, but he failed to provide the breakthrough sought by coach Gerardo Martino.
