FILL UP NOW: Drivers warned of fuel price hike

As the cost of living soars, there’s one place West Aussies can save a few bucks.

Motorists are being urged to fill up their cars now to take advantage of the cheapest fuel in Perth’s price cycle.

WA watchdog FuelWatch has warned that the average price of unleaded petrol will rise by more than 20 cents a litre tomorrow.

The price increase means filling up today could save motorists more than $11 on the average 55-litre fuel tank.

On Tuesday, the cheapest fuel was recorded at Atlas Fuel in Ascot, which is selling petrol at $1.81.9/litre.

In Perth’s northern suburbs, Shell in Alkimos was the cheapest at $1.83.3/litre, while in the eastern suburbs, Midvale’s BP 2go and BP Maida Vale were selling the cheapest petrol at $1.84.9/litre.

By Wednesday, the average price across Perth will increase to $2.90.7/litre.

But, FuelWatch says there are still lower prices available at some servos, including Shell in High Wycombe, Costco at Perth Airpot and Vibe stations in Canning Vale and Morley, where fuel will still cost less than $1.85/litre.

“Buying fuel from the cheapest site rather than the most expensive, a difference of 46 cpl, means motorists can potentially save $27 on a 60 litre tank,” a FuelWatch spokesperson said.

Fuel prices have this year surpassed $2 a litre in every capital city in Australia – and there’s more price pain to come.

In September, Australian motorists will again start paying 44 cents per litre fuel excise after a six-month halving by the former Federal Government comes to an end.
