Perth motorists are being urged to fill up now to avoid the extreme hike in fuel prices around the City on Wednesday.
The average price of unleaded petrol will increase by 23 cents per litre to 177.4cpl. However, at some fuel sites, drivers can expect an extreme surge of 41cpl up to 189.5cpl.
From 6am on Wednesday, 7-Eleven, Ampol, BP, Caltex Woolworths and Coles Express will up their prices 33-41cpl to 189.9cpl.
Consumers are advised to check the FuelWatch website, with some retailers expected to keep their prices below 152cpl.
Motorists can save up to $31 on a 60-litre tank by filling up their vehicles at the cheapest outlet rather than the most expensive.
The price increase follows renewed calls for the continuation of the fuel excise cut as cost-of-living pressures continue to hit struggling West Australian families.
The 44cpl petrol tax was halved by the Morrison government but the six-month reprieve is due to end on September 28.
Mr Chalmers has ruled out extending the tax cut despite calls from the Coalition to keep it in place, saying the Budget cannot afford it but has ordered the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to “intensify” its monitoring of fuel prices as the end to the reduction looms.
Tuesday’s cheapest ULP is available for:
- 149.5cpl at NightOwl Shell Bellevue in the East
- 147.9cpl at Coles Express Myaree, Coles Express Waikiki, Coles Express Southern River and Coles Express Bentley in the South
- 148.9cpl at Coles Express Warwick, Coles Express Kingsley; Coles Express Ellenbrook, Coles Express Dianella and Coles Express Bayswater in the North.
Wednesday’s cheapest ULP will be available for:
- 149.5cpl at NightOwl Shell Bellevue in the East
- 146.7cpl at Costco Perth Airport (membership based) and 148.4 cpl at Atlas Fuel Kwinana in the South
- 148.3cpl at Shell Alkimos in the North
