Rome has inspired so many whimsical, romantic moments in cinematic history that it would be hard to count them all. From the sweeping romance of Roman Holiday, the first Hollywood film shot entirely in Italy, to the self-actualization in Eat Pray Love, many movies set in Rome tug on the heartstrings and are forever remembered. In the spirit of celebrating this special film history, Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese is now inviting their guests to enjoy a tour of Rome’s most well-known film locations.

Some filming locations that you may want to explore with a tour or on your own include the following spots.

Sparks flew for Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn as their characters in the 1953 romantic comedy Roman Holiday. In the film, Hepburn portrays a princess who sets out to explore Rome on her own, and memorable scenes were filmed at more than a dozen places around the city. Filming locations include the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Mouth of Truth, and Castel Sant’Angelo.
Make a Wish and Toss a Coin in the Trevi Fountain
Crowds gather at the Trevi Fountain.
The Trevi Fountain was also seen in Roman Holiday and many other movies. If you’ve seen Three Coins in the Fountain, La Dolce Vita, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, or When in Rome, you’ve seen the Trevi Fountain. Called Fontana di Trevi in Italian, it’s the biggest Baroque fountain in Rome. People come from all over to make a wish, then toss a coin in the fountain.
Run Past Film History
You can run past historical sites.
One way to see some of the incredible filming locations is to join an ArcheoRunning tour. Since it was founded by Isabella Calidonna in 2016, ArcheoRunning has offered a variety of private running and walking tours in Rome, and it offers film-themed tours. Not only can you get out pent-up energy during travel and enjoy a good workout at your chosen pace during a tour, but you can also get to see more significant sites used in movies than you would in a traditional, slower walking tour.
Running tours can be informative and fun.
After Your Film Tours
A highlight of your Sightseeing & Savor package just might be the sensory experiences after your tours. The Italian-inspired dinner at Settimo, the onsite restaurant at Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese, is a meal to remember, and the chef and staff can accommodate vegans and those with other special dietary needs when you let them know in advance. Films that inspired the dishes include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Godfather, and Three Coins in the Fountain.
Savoring a delicious, film-inspired meal might be a highlight of your stay.
After dinner, an in-room cocktail and gelato flight, which was inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s sweet stop in the Piazza di Spagna in Roman Holiday, will be waiting for you. Delicious vegan substitutions can be made here, too, and you can finish the evening with this sweet treat.
