Final Fantasy XIV continues to deliver an info-packed Fanfest live from Las Vegas Nevada, and series producer Naoki “Yoshi P” Yoshida announced some really great news for prospective players: the free trial is getting an upgrade.
Yoshida mentioned that the trial will be coming with the release of patch 6.5, which is expected to go live sometime in September. As is the case with most patches (even smaller ones), Square Enix is very careful in terms of when it provides exact dates (or even windows) of when updates might drop. But even still, it’s coming! And we won’t have to wait until 2024’s Dawntrail expansion to take advantage of it.
Square Enix has slowly made its Final Fantasy XIV free trial more generous over the years
Slowly but surely, Square Enix has been adding more expansions into the mix. Originally the free trial only included A Realm Reborn (back in 2014!), but it eventually expanded to Heavensward (in 2019), and now, Stormblood. It would stand to reason that Shadowbringers could arrive at some point. All you free players are in for a treat if that happens!

The Stormblood free trial is coming to Xbox, too
In case you missed it, Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox platforms will include the free trial:
“Additionally, you may have seen some copypasta lurking around the internet pertaining to a certain free trial… well, rest assured, the Final Fantasy XIV Online Expanded Free Trial will indeed be coming to Xbox Series X|S, meaning you too will be able to enjoy the entirety of A Realm Reborn as well as the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions up to level 70 with no restrictions on playtime!”
