(NewsNation) — First lady Jill Biden tested positive Wednesday for a “rebound” case of COVID-19, according to a statement from the Office of the First Lady.
Biden, 71, was prescribed the anti-viral drug Paxlovid after she tested positive for COVID-19, and is experiencing “mild symptoms.”
Biden tested negative for COVID-19 Sunday. She had isolated for five days and received negative results from two consecutive coronavirus test.
Biden has been twice-vaccinated and twice-boosted.
According to the statement, the first lady has experienced no reemergence of symptoms with her “rebound” case and will remain in Delaware where she has reinitiated isolation procedures.
The White House Medical Unit has conducted contact tracing and close contacts have been notified.
The First lady initially tested positive a week after President Joe Biden left his COVID-19 isolation after also testing positive for a rare “rebound” case.
