First Look: 2023 Nissan Altima

It’s been 30 years since Nissan debuted the Altima, and for 2023 the mid-size sedan gets new styling and new tech. The 2023 model lineup, which will go on sale in Canada in the fall, includes four models: S AWD, SR AWD, SR Premium, and Platinum.

In terms of the exterior, the biggest design change in what Nissan refers to as a “comprehensive refresh’ is the front end, featuring an updated grille that includes the redesigned brand logo. SR grades get a black chrome grille finish with a unique grille. Other exterior updates include now standard LED headlights with integrates turn signals in the daytime running lights, a new taillight design and available single panel moonroof. In addition, there are two new aluminum-alloy wheel designs SR and Platinum trims.

There is also a new exterior colour, called Ethos Gray whic, joins Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Pearl White TriCoat, Glacier White, and Deep Blue Pearl.

Technology enhancements include the additions of a new 12.3-inch HD color display with multi-touch control, Nissan door-to-door navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging pad and WiFi hotspot, all standard on Altima SR Premium and Platinum grades. That display, which replaces an 8.0-inch display, is the same size as in the premium Nissan Armada SUV and features a high-resolution display. The SR models also get a revised instrument panel finishings and a new dual-stitch interior fabric.

What hasn’t changed for 2023 is the powertrain choice. It remains the 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder with 182 horsepower and 178 lbs.-ft of torque. All 2023 Altima models come equipped with a standard Xtronic transmission, with paddle shifters standard with the Altima SR grade.
